Oxford, CONN., May 16, 2022 – To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Oxford, CT branch of professional scale manufacturer Adam Equipment recently partnered with Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust in Woodbury to plant 50 evergreen trees.
Founded in England in 1972, Adam got its start as a seller of retail and industrial scales before branching out into designing and manufacturing its own branded products. Today, the UK-headquartered company is a leading worldwide manufacturer of professional scales and balances with branches in six countries. The planting event was the first in a series of events in each of Adam’s regional offices across the globe to mark the 50th anniversary milestone.
“As we began talking about how to celebrate our anniversary, it became clear to us that we didn’t want to just concentrate on looking backward,” said Tom Storey, president of Adam’s U.S. operations. “We’re proud of our past, certainly. But we wanted to look toward the future with something that will last, as well as give something back to the local community. Planting trees fulfilled that.”
Turning to Flanders as a partner was an easy decision, since the Woodbury nature center is conveniently located just a few towns away from Oxford and Flanders’ vision – which includes being a leading resource for environmental education, research, land preservation and stewardship – fit in perfectly with Adam’s commitment to sustainability and desire to work within the community.
Volunteers from Adam’s Oxford facility gathered at Flanders’ Van Vleck Farm & Nature Sanctuary on May 10, where they dug holes and planted 50 saplings (25 Firs and 25 Concolor Firs, sourced from local tree farm and land maintenance company The Lewis Brothers) in the nature center’s Christmas tree area, located off the Botany Trail.
Vincent D. LaFontan, MHA, executive director of Flanders, said that “the evergreen trees planted by Adam Equipment supports Flanders Tree Farm by replanting trees used during our holiday programming each year, helping Flanders maintain this sustainable natural resource at the Nature Center."
